Coil Tending Equipment and Their Types

A coil handle is a piece of equipment used in manufacturing, which holds different kinds of coils and is used to manipulate them. This type of handling equipment comes with a number of diverse functions and is extremely useful for handling any size and shape of coils. A coil handling system feeds, holds, positions, loads, unloads and feeds material of different sizes and weights to a particular press manufacturing line. Depending upon the specific product specifications and needs of the manufacturing line, this machine may consist of individual or grouped coil cradles, coil raising arms, wire feeders, coil lifts, feed balancing and unloading machines, and so on.

Coil Handling Equipment

Among the most common uses for coil handling equipment is in the production of electrical components, particularly those that are used in stamping applications. Amongst the most popular applications is the application of electrical tape to make stampings or patterns; this is done by applying it over a stationary coil and then winding the tape in a mandrel to form a perpendicular flattened surface. The winding motion of the tape is controlled through the application of a variable-speed electric motor, which is usually run at a definite setup time. The stamping product is then moved through a die cutting machine that cuts away unwanted pieces while maintaining their position and orientation with respect to the mandrel. The entire process is completed through the help of a set of stamping dies.

Another application of this amazing power tool is in the manufacture of the stamping equipment utilized in the manufacturing of bearings, balls, and die cuts. With the help of an appropriate mounting system, it becomes easy to get desired results in terms of material management, feed rates, stock widths, and so on. Further, it helps to ensure that the best quality of products is attained with minimum effort and wastage of valuable time and money. Such applications include rotating and oscillating feed bearings, and die cuts of different shapes and sizes.

This type of power tool can also be utilized in the fabrication of housing frames for heavy machinery and other components. The most typical and widely used applications include precast concrete house frames; panel boxes; and precast panel lids. It is primarily due to the fact that these types of machine tools are readily available and easily affordable owing to the fact that they are manufactured using high-quality and high-tensile steel plates. Further, the high-tensile steel plates used to manufacture coil handling equipment are extremely compact and the frame geometry is optimized to fit a very compact housing unit.

Apart from the manual power tools, there are also a few electronic devices that are designed to perform the necessary tasks of coil handling equipment. These devices are typically known as lenders and have an electrical motor that facilitates the attachment of metallic rollers, coils or other types of elements. The upenders are basically intended for rotating and twisting at high speeds, which in turn can damage the metal or the upender itself.

The most common electric upender is the one that is designed to perform both the tasks of twisting and casting. However, there are some other specially designed upenders such as the vertical upenders that are capable of performing both tasks. A number of heavy duty suspenders are also manufactured in countries such as India.
